Pop the Pig!

The premise is a bit silly when "over-indulging" is not something to advocate for -- but for the developmentally young child, it makes them giggle while they learn simple number recognition, counting, sequencing, socialization, adaptive responses to winning and losing, basic fine motor skills, and upper extremity coordination.

The Essentials

Pop the Pig! Is a silly-fun game centered around players feeding the Pig-Chef burgers until his belly grows so big that it pops open his belt and chef uniform.

The game comes with 4 sets of different colored hamburgers, a dice, and the Pig Chef of course. Each hamburger has a colored bun on top and a number carved into the bottom. Game play is simple, roll the dice, pick a burger with the color indicated on the dice, flip the burger over to learn how many times you get to press the pigs head, feed the pig, press his head the number of times indicated on the burger chosen, and the person who pops the belt open Wins!

Facilitate basic visual information processing, color recognition/discrimination, number recognition (only to 4), making choices (when they roll the dice indicating they can choose any color they want), learning about losing a turn (if they roll the dice on the “no burger” symbol, simple cause-effect, managing anticipation, simple fine motor skills, sequencing, and upper extremity coordination required.

The Pig character is well made and the growing belly is durable and fun to watch grow with each passing turn — the kids love it!

Fun Factor

Your patients and students will laugh and giggle while playing this game. The anticipation of making the chef’s belt pop open builds as his belly gets bigger — but is low key enough to help a defensive child build tolerance.  Kid consultants, the Panel of Experts, and parents give this game 2 thumbs up!  High marks for learning fun, socialization, cause-effect processing, counting, color recognition, number recognition, fine motor skills, and completing steps in a specific sequence.

Set-Up and Clean-Up

Set-up, clean-up, and storage of this game is simple. Easily santized and the Pig itself contains what I call “a secret compartment” to the kids for storing all game pieces.

The IF-THEN’S and the BUT’S

Warning — small pieces, choking hazard!
