The Essentials
This game is addictive. It builds deductive reasoning, sequencing skills, recognizing right from left, positional awareness (up-down, left-right, backward-forward) and visual skills.
Players follow a series of written clues and place colored chips in the specific sequence the clues dictate to solve the puzzle. There are 166 puzzles that get more advanced as you move from 1 – 166. Also included are 32 plastic colored chips (be cautious that a child does not place these in their mouth) and easy to follow instructions. Determination to solve the puzzle is a challenge that players get hooked on.
Fun Factor
Unexpectedly, this game has an excellent Family Fun Factor. The puzzles are challenging and can be enjoyed solo or in a group. Racing against friends and family members to complete a certain number of puzzles within a predetermined amount of time or compete to see who can solve the puzzle first, enhances the fun factor with friendly competition.
This game is a fun way to introduce the concept of right versus left , position, and reinforce color recognition/identification to young children and children with special needs. For children with special needs, this game will elevate their ability to play logic games that are also socially appropriate for their age.
Parents, therapists, kid consultants, and the Toy Doctor herself give this game high marks for learning, interaction, and repeat playing. This game merits being part of the standard rotation at home!
Set-Up and Clean-Up
Set-up, clean-up, and storage of this game is easy. The packaging is good and holds the cards and pieces without damaging them when removed and replaced – though, I would recommend storing the chips in a ziploc. The cards are sturdy and easy to handle without bending them if you have adequate hand skills.
The IF-THEN’S and the BUT’S
WARNING! CHOKING HAZARD – small pieces, not for children under 3 years old or if your child mouths non-edible items.
If your child does not read, read the instructions out loud. Laminate the cards for easy sanitation and repeat use. Enlarge and laminate the cards to compensate for decreased visual skills.
If your child tends to use too much pressure when sorting or passing out the cards, I recommend laminating the cards to increase durability. Two (2) sample laminators include:
