The Essentials

This twist on a trivia game pits parents/adults versus children. The first team to traverse the game board, with their game tokens, to the other side wins (it reminded me of Chinese checkers). Players answer trivia questions (up to 3) to move their pieces across the board. That is not all, there are pitfalls along the way, if an opponent lands on your token, you get knocked back; if you land on your opponents “Wild space”, there are negative effects when you draw the Wild Card. ***If you land on your own Wild Space you get a bonus effect!

Trivia cards are divided with questions specifically for parents versus the kids.

Wild Cards can give bonus or negative effects depending on which you land on – you want to land on your own.

This game tests knowledge and builds strategic thinking, turn taking, team building, executive functioning, recognizing right from left when moving pieces, and could be used to build reading and reading comprehension. Easily modifiable to play in short increments within a therapy session or socialization group programs (teachers vs kids).

Fun Factor

This game has a good Family Fun Factor and is a good choice to include in home program recommendations when your patient build enough skill to generalize to home. Pitting adults versus kids in a friendly competition builds comradery amongst team mates and a positive outlet for “beating my parents or teacher”. Parents report enjoying watching their kids work together to achieve a common goal and the majority of parents reported thinking the questions were fun and appropriate for them and their kids. For children with special needs, this game will elevate their ability to play trivia and simple strategy games that are also socially appropriate for their age

Parents, therapists, and kid consultants give this game high marks for fun, learning, and interaction. This game merits being part of the standard rotation at home!

Set-Up and Clean-Up

Set-up, clean-up, and storage of this game is easy. The packaging is well designed for storage and keeping the pieces damage free. The cards are sturdy and easy to handle without bending them if you have adequate hand skills.

The IF-THEN’S and the BUT’S

WARNING! CHOKING HAZARD – small pieces, not for children under 3 years old or if your child mouths non-edible items.

If your child does not read, have a teammate be the “reader” and read out loud. Game play is between 30 – 60 minutes. If you need to shorten the time it takes to complete the game, use only one (1) token each (versus 2). You can also focus on traversing the board versus knocking your opponents backward.

Repeat Play is a bit hampered after a 3-5 repetitions because of the amount of trivia cards available. Nonetheless, it is still a fun game to have.
