16 Apr Foam Rollers
Foam rollers are an excellent sensory accessory to have as part of the sensory diet for your children that seek pressure, show tactile processing deficits, and/or show calming with deep pressure activities — for example, bear hugs, massage, heavy play with resistance to joints and muscles.
Rolling these rollers over your child’s back (no stomach or chest), legs, and arms can have a calming effect prior to challenging tasks and can re-focus a child’s attention during table top activities and studying. Please refer to an occupational therapist if you are concerned with sensory processing issues.
Constantly check-in with your child, regarding the amount of pressure being used (“more” or “less”) — you may be surprised about how much deep pressure they want. They can learn to apply the pressure to their own legs as well.
